Yellowhammer Fund is excited to launch what we hope will be the first in a regular series of book club events discussing reproductive health, rights, and justice issues. Starting us off with a deep dive into “reproductive futurism” is award winning sci-fi author Meg Elison to discuss “The Book of the Unnamed Midwife,” the first book of her “The Road to Nowhere” series, which dissects and reassembles gender roles in a post-apocalyptic era.

In “The Book of the Unnamed Midwife,” Elison imagines a world that has been hit by a cataclysmic virus that has eliminated a large portion of the world’s population – including virtually all women and girls. With those last females now a rare commodity to a surplus of men, The Midwife travels the country seeking her own safety, as well as the opportunity to protect those women who remain from becoming pregnant – which in this post-virus world inevitably results in their death.

“I am proud to support the Yellowhammer Fund, as I have been proud to support local and legislative work to keep abortion safe, accessible, and legal all my life,” said Elison. “Part of keeping abortion safe and fighting for reproductive justice for all is telling the story, making the conversation include everyone, and remembering that none of us is free in the ownership of the body until all of us are. I write about reproductive justice with equal measures of fear and hope, and I hope to keep the worst possible timelines fictional by working with my every breath for the right to an abortion on demand and without apology.”

If you haven’t read the book you can order a copy from The Book Lady Bookstore in Savannah, Georgia, or any local independent bookstore.

**Book-A-Thon will take place on Wed. April 7th at 7pm ET (6pm CT / 4pm PT)**

Tickets to the event are $5 minimum / pay as you want, with all proceeds going to the Yellowhammer Fund’s 2021 Fund-A-Thon campaign. All you have to do is click here to donate, and you’ll receive the event link!

Support Reproductive Justice in the Deep South

The Yellowhammer Fund envisions a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures.
